A small stack of books rests on your desk as you get ready to go home. Placing the books in your schoolbag, you look over at your friend Ritsuka, who has finally returned to school after not attending for almost a month. You take notice of the crown necklace glistening around her neck, remembering what it symbolizes.

You can't help but feel bad for your friend, well aware that she and Rem are "together" but their relationship is "long distance", or so you were told. You didn't understand why Rem and the other Student Council members resigned their positions and left Shoko Academy, and you never bothered asking Ritsuka if she knew about their whereabouts. You thought it would be best to respect her space since Azuna died and Rem went away.

Realizing you are awkwardly staring at your friend, you're quick to apologize. "Sorry, Ritsuka! I was lost in thought."

"It's okay [Name]. I tend to space out too," Ritsuka smiles warmly at you. "Sorry I can't walk with you today, I decided to go home with my onii-chan. I'm waiting for him to stop by so we can walk home together."

"There's nothing to be sorry about! Tomorrow then?" you ask as you firmly grip the handle of your schoolbag.

"Yeah, tomorrow sounds good!" she says as she puts on her coat.

You loosely wrap a scarf around your neck, wondering to yourself about who Ritsuka's brother is. A part of you wants to stay longer since you've yet to meet him, but you decide that another opportunity will arise later on.

"See ya!" you wave at Ritsuka, bumping head first into someone's chest, abruptly falling down onto the floor on your behind. "Oww..."

"Onii-chan! Say 'sorry' to [Name]-chan! [Name], are you okay?" Ritsuka goes over to check on you, helping you stand back up on your own two feet. She lifts up your bangs and takes a look at your forehead, breathing a sigh of relief no bruise formed.

"I'm fine, I'm fine," you rub your sides to ease the pain. You look over at the doorway and take notice of who you ran into.

A red-haired man, presumably Ritsuka's older brother, goes over to you and offers an apology. "I apologize for bumping into you."

Ritsuka takes notice of the gloomy expression on Lindo's face, fully aware he's still recovering from the ordeal involving the Grimoire. She then notices how you're looking away bashfully and how Lindo is being very apologetic, even more so than usual. Her face brightens up as she thought of a brilliant idea.

"Nii-san, why don't you make it up to her?" Ritsuka insists, feeling a little bad to take advantage of her cousin's loyalty since he normally won't refuse her requests.

"Ahh, I don't think it's necessary, really!" you stand back, trying not to blush as you're embarrassed Ritsuka would ask something of someone you just met.

"I think it would be more of an insult if you refuse," Lindo says as a follow up to Ritsuka, seeing what she's trying to do for him. He didn't think Ritsuka would go through so much trouble as to set him up with one of her friends. Since his aching heart is slowly starting to move on from Ritsuka, he decided to take a leap of faith. "I'd like to take you out sometime."

You notice yourself being stared at by both of the Tachibanas and chuckle, "I guess I'll have to agree to this, huh."

"Lindo... Lindo..." you smile to yourself as you're spread across the bed, staring up at the ceiling. You liked how his name rolls off your tongue, and you feel butterflies in your stomach as you think of your upcoming date with him.

You're still in disbelief Ritsuka was sneaky enough to set you up with her older brother as it seemed very unlikely for her to do. You sit up and hold onto a pillow close to your chest, warming up to the idea that you might get yourself your own boyfriend out of this.

Meanwhile somewhere in another part of town are two cousins having a quarrel over you.

"Ritsuka, you can't just force me to change my feelings for you overnight! It's not easy," Lindo crosses his arms, upset over what happened after school. "Sometimes I wish you chose me and not Rem--"

"H-How could you say something like that, onii-chan!" Ritsuka cries out. "[Name] is lonely. Her parents work all the time so she never gets a chance to see them, so I'm all she has. I'm trying to help the both of you out, so please understand..."

"Does she know about the supernatural, such as demons or vampires?" Lindo asks in concern. "If she finds out if I'm a dhampir then this will further complicate things."

Ritsuka nods, hoping Lindo is finally warming up to the idea of going on a date with you. "Yes, she does. Azuna saved [Name] and me one night from a vampire that was following us. I haven't told her you're a dhampir, but I have a good feeling she won't harbor any prejudice."

"Only because I care for you dearly I'll take [Name] out. Like I said, it's not easy for me to change how I feel about you, but maybe this is what I need; maybe I need to find someone who shares the same feelings as me. I just want to be able to love again."

Instead of interrupting Lindo, Ritsuka smiles warmly at him and hugs him in understanding. She understands that he only wants to feel the same love that she and Rem share.

"You will, nii-san, you'll see."

Surprised that Ritsuka would hug him after raising his voice earlier, Lindo reciprocates and hugs her back. No words are spoken as a mutual understanding is exchanged.

It's finally the weekend and you're incredibly nervous. You're wearing an ensemble recommend by Ritsuka after she went through your wardrobe the previous night. You recall her reaction when you tried on the outfit for her, hoping that Lindo would be just as appreciative of your outfit as well. You reach in your blazer pocket and look at the time on your mobile. 12:00PM and Lindo still hasn't shown up. You look around, worried that you were stood up as you've never gone out on a date before.

"I hope you weren't waiting too long."

Your eyes widen as you turn around, seeing the older Tachibana standing in front of you. "O-oh! No, not at all."

"Good. You look... cute. I like it," Lindo says approvingly. "By the way, I hope you don't mind if we have lunch at a café."

"That's perfectly fine! I'm actually a bit nervous and excited," you try to laugh it off.

"Don't worry, I am too," he smiles a little. "C'mon, let's go."

During the lunch date at the café, you opted for soup and croissant with orange juice while Lindo opted for a hearty sandwich with tea. You tried your best not to spill anything, but ended up flustering after Lindo reached over to wipe a crumb from the croissant off the corner of your lips.

Despite the awkwardness surfacing throughout lunch, you're having a good time, and notice that Lindo is having as much fun as you are. You're happy to see the serious expression he had when he first met you is now replaced by a gentle one.

After lunch, you both decide to take a walk in the park. You share bits and pieces of your life as you were earlier made aware Ritsuka practically told Lindo of your entire backstory. You learn more about Ritsuka through Lindo as he shares childhood stories with you, and you also learn more about him, too. You find out he's an exorcist like how Azuna was, and that he used to have a preference for handling things on his own.

As moments pass, you come to understand Lindo's personality a bit more and how he vows to protect those that he loves. Your heart warms up at the idea of being loved by Lindo, but you slow down your pace and stop walking.

Lindo stops and looks at you, noticing your uneasiness. "Is something the matter?"

"No, I just want to get something off my chest," you look at him, holding back your tears. "I understand how hard it is to not having your feelings reciprocated by your first love; trust me, I know. My first love ended up falling for someone else and I was left broken for a while."

You shakily take a deep breath and begin to talk. "I understand how lonely it can get. My parents are never home, and the closest thing I have to a family now is Ritsuka. I..."

"[Name]," Lindo slowly walks towards you, getting a better grasp of what you're going through. He sees the tears spilling from your eyes as you continue, standing right in front of you.

"I know we've only just met and this is our first date, but I really want to spend more time with you. I... I don't ever want you to feel lonely! I don't ever want you to feel heartache again. I hope to love you with all my heart, even if it takes us some time."

Lindo is shocked at the confession you made. He uses his thumbs to wipe away the tears from the corners of your eyes, placing a gentle kiss on your forehead. The rapid beat of your heart slows down to a normal rate as Lindo holds you in his arms.

"Thank you, [Name]. Hearing what you just said is helping me build back the confidence I thought I had lost. I have a feeling good things will come from being with you. Thank you, really..."

EPILOGUE;
A couple of months later...

"I'll see you tomorrow!" you yell, waving at Ritsuka.

"Yeah, have fun with nii-san!" Ritsuka yells back teasingly as she waves back.

You blush as you wait for Lindo to the side of the academy's entrance, avoiding the curious gazes of your schoolmates. You smile seeing Lindo make his way towards you.

"It seems I have a bad habit of making you wait," he chuckles.

You shake your head, "I never wait too long. It's okay."

Lindo starts walking away from the school with you. Once the school is out of eyesight, he reaches over and takes your hand. "You get cold really easily in the winter, huh?"

"Yeah, but with you I warm right up!" you giggle. "Oh, look! It's starting to snow."

You and Lindo stop walking and step over to the side to observe the snowfall. You hold out your hand, catching a few snowflakes in the process. You then feel Lindo let go of your other hand and wrap his arms around you from behind.

"I love you, [Name]."

After months of dating, Lindo finally finds confidence in himself to say the words you've been waiting to hear, officially moving on from his previous love. He pulls your back to his chest, securing his hold onto you.

"I vow to love and protect you no matter what. I love you so much."

"I love you too, Lindo."
